Initially we were planning a trip to Italy on our own with assistance from a local travel agency. Mary has been to Florence and Venice several times, but this would be my first trip. We were interested in Rome and the Vatican because we are Roman Catholic. After reading that Matera would be the 2019 European Cultural Capitol of the year we put it on our list of places to see.

Things were moving slowly on our own so we decided to browse the Rick Steves Europe website. We were thrilled to find the South Italy tour and even more excited to discover that it included all the locations that we wanted to see: Rome, Matera, Pompei, Sorrento, Positano, and Pompeii. So, we signed up for Rick’s tour.

His website and his guidebook became valuable resources for our preparation: helping us to identify and, in some cases, to purchase suitable clothing, luggage, accessories and tickets for events not included in the overall cost of the tour. The guidebook was a great resource for planning free time activities.

Rick’s Audio Europe Travel app was also a helpful and fun resource.

Youtube offers a Rick Steves Europe channel as well as beneficial videos from a variety of sources.
